THE PROJECT

E476A49A-8D2B-452E-B9B7-38407AB36359.jpeg

October 31, 2019, I embarked on a new journey as an American citizen.

(To commemorate this milestone, I created a short comic about obtaining my American passport.)

The path to citizenship was a complex and lengthy process, but with the support of "One America," I was able to celebrate my new status.

Throughout this journey, I encountered numerous other immigrants, each with their own unique stories and shared challenges. From the moment we decided to leave our home countries to the day we embraced life as American citizens, our experiences have shaped our individual identities.

Motivated by these connections, I felt compelled to use my art as a platform for sharing the stories of my fellow immigrants and celebrating our vibrant community.

THE PROCESS

The Creative Process Each story undergoes a consistent process to ensure accuracy and authenticity. This process begins with an interview, followed by research, then feedback to verify each story's accuracy. Finally, the stories are compiled and published for sharing.

Below is a step-by-step example of how these stories come to life.

THE STORIES
Currently, I am working on two compelling stories:

Hamin's Journey

8657165E-59BA-43B3-9E0A-18F4C517C9BF.jpeg

During the 2008 recession, Hamin's family was forced to move back to South Korea.

At eight years old, Hamin tried to engage in a world he did not understand and found himself confused by the contrast of two different cultures.

Later, Hamin was sent to a traditional school to study calligraphy and Confucianism.

The strict structure of the school conditioned Hamin for six years until his sister brought him back to Seattle. Hamin is now learning to express himself again and become the person he wants to be.

Edgar's Journey

When Edgar immigrated from Mexico to Seattle with his American wife, he found himself isolated and unable to work. As he tried to navigate the complex legal system of immigration, his community looked down on him for not being the working man of the family.

Thanks to new friends made in a German-speaking club and a non-profit that supports immigrants, Edgar will find himself at the forefront of prestigious CEO investor meetings and on television, becoming the voice of immigration rights for his community.
